1 Piece Of Advice I Would Give To Anyone Learning Cloud
Save yourself time and avoid frustration by following this simple advice
Hey there 👋 - Amrut here!
Happy Saturday!
I have been asked the following question many times on social media:
Do I need to learn multiple cloud providers to get a better job?
In today's newsletter, I will share some important advice to help you learn Cloud faster and answer the above question.
There are many cloud providers out there.
As the adoption of the Cloud continues to grow, it opens up many opportunities for someone interested in building their career.
However, it can become overwhelming to learn what each cloud provider offers.
Here's one piece of advice I would give to anyone learning cloud:
Focus on mastering one cloud platform first.
There is a common misconception among beginners that you should learn what multiple cloud providers have to offer.
Many beginners will hop around different public cloud providers like AWS, Microsoft Azure, or GCP, chasing the next in-demand certification. However, they don’t specialize in anything in particular and have difficulty finding a job.
The general message communicated on social media platforms is that learning multiple clouds increases your chances of getting a job and makes you more valuable.
While it can be partially true, here’s the reality:
Companies look for specialists.
They want experts in one cloud platform which can help them solve specific business problems.
Having interviewed candidates for Cloud positions, I can tell from experience that companies look for candidates who can demonstrate strong knowledge of one cloud platform.
They are willing to top $$$ if you can prove your expertise and demonstrate your experience in developing innovative solutions to business problems.
Becoming an expert in one cloud gives you the following advantages:
You build authority and earn higher than average income. Since you have specialized skills, you are more valuable in the job market.
Most skills you learn in one cloud are transferrable to others.
Once you understand what business problems a particular service or product solves, it is relatively easier to figure out similar services other cloud providers offer, given some time. The knowledge gained from one cloud provider helps you learn things faster with less effort.
The opportunities and income potential are endless if you use the skills and experience acquired to run your own coaching or consulting business. It is easier to acquire clients looking for someone with your expertise to solve specific business problems.
Since you are focused on learning the ins and outs of one cloud provider and what it offers, learning becomes more fun as you build momentum.
It saves you the hassles of constantly comparing different cloud platforms, thus saving time and avoiding feeling overwhelmed and frustrated.
Key takeaway
If you are learning Cloud, I highly recommend mastering one cloud first.
Companies seek specialists in one cloud platform who can solve specific business problems through innovative solutions.
It can propel your career and income potential while you have fun mastering the skills.
